A powerful storm pounded much of the West Coast on Sunday, knocking out power to parts of San Francisco and dropping heavy snow in higher elevations.
Winds gusted higher than 60 mph in parts of California, and more than a foot of snow fell in mountain areas.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms bothered the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, while snow mixed with rain fell in the Appalachian Mountains.
The nation's midsection was generally dry, and temperatures as high as the 40s reached into North Dakota.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged from minus 11 degrees at Whitefield, N.H., to 88 degrees at Miami.
