LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Director Mark Romanek has left Universal's "The Wolfman," just weeks before the movie was to go before cameras.

Creative differences were cited.

The movie was to have been a remake of the classic Universal monster movie and had Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins aboard to star.

Romanek's departure harks back to another troubled Universal production, "State of Play," which lost stars Brad Pitt and Ed Norton weeks before shooting, only to be reborn with a pair of new stars, Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck. The studio is on the hunt for a director.

Romanek's directing credits include many high-profile music videos and the 2002 feature "One Hour Photo."
